<a href="#comment-9565" rel="nofollow">@zilia</a>
Hey Zilia,

I got all of those sysctl settings form various mailing list postings about samba and network performance. I honestly cannot explain why I have mss set to 1460, only out of ignorance.

Is your recommendation that I set it to 9194 - 52? I can definitally try that out and update the post with your enhancement.

Oh, and good to know the default for 8 is rfc1323=1. I can remove that redundant line :)

Can you explain please why net.inet.tcp.mssdflt=1460 if mtu=9194
I think it should be mss=mtu-52 (including rfc1323 header) in best practice.
Also net.inet.tcp.rfc1323=1 is default for FreeBSD 8.0 ;)
